Guido admits that he has been feeling homesick and emotionally low. After eight weeks at sea, with another four to six months potentially ahead, the psychological challenge of sailing solo around the world is becoming very real.

He knew these difficult moments would come, but actually experiencing them is another matter entirely.

How does Guido cope with the difficult days?

Music is one of his greatest comforts. With around 90 cassette tapes aboard, he listens to music and tries to talk himself through the tough moments.

📻 RADIO TROUBLES MAKE LIFE EVEN LONELIER

Guido’s HF radio antenna tuner is not working properly. Although he can receive transmissions and weather information, other sailors generally cannot hear him transmitting.

He has managed to communicate with Henry Wootton when their boats were close enough, but even that contact has now become difficult as their routes separate.

For Guido, radio conversations aren’t just about weather and sailing tactics — they’re an essential connection with other people in the vast ocean.

🌊 CHALLENGING WEATHER AND COLDER CONDITIONS

Guido reports winds fluctuating dramatically, with powerful gusts and boat speeds ranging around 5–6 knots, occasionally much faster.

Temperatures are dropping, and he’s now wearing heavy foul-weather gear or a drysuit on deck to keep seawater and salt out of his clothing.

Guido also reveals that he lost his horseshoe lifebuoy overboard. A frustrating reminder of how easily equipment can disappear during such a demanding voyage.
