#Tuvalu’s waters are a vital biodiversity hotspot, home to #sharks, #mantarays, and essential spawning grounds for various #tuna species. They also serve as a key migratory route for bluefin tuna heading to the Sea of Japan. However, the booming demand for tuna is driving illegal fishing in the area, which devastates marine life and disrupts local livelihoods.
Our vessel, the Allankay, has been patrolling Tuvalu’s waters with the Tuvalu Police, recovering over 9.5 kilometers of illegal longlines and securing critical evidence against unlicensed fishing operations.
