🌊 60-KNOT GUSTS, BREAKING WAVES, DAMAGE TO HIS WINDVANE AND A NIGHT HE WON’T FORGET! ⚠️⛵
🇮🇱 Daniel Pinsky – Week 8 Storm Aftermath Call | 2026 Golden Globe Race
After a frightening night battling a powerful South Atlantic storm, Israeli skipper Daniel Pinsky calls GGR Founder Don McIntyre to report that he and his yacht EXODUS are SAFE!
But it has been an exhausting and terrifying experience.
💨 60-KNOT GUSTS AND BREAKING SEAS!
Daniel explains that the crucial storm warning arrived too late, leaving him caught off guard as conditions rapidly deteriorated overnight.
With gusts reaching around 60 knots, possibly even stronger, Daniel was forced to HAND-STEER under bare poles through high, steep seas and breaking waves.
"There were some scary moments there."
A powerful wave crashed into the stern, breaking the plywood vane of his Windpilot self-steering system.
His storm jib also suffered damage, losing several hanks, although the full extent has yet to be inspected.
Despite the punishment, EXODUS appears to have escaped without major structural damage.
🥶 EXHAUSTED, SOAKED AND FREEZING COLD
After hours battling the storm, Daniel is physically exhausted, completely wet and struggling to get warm.
He confirms that he has no injuries, but desperately needs sleep and recovery time.
His plan is simple: make himself a hot cup of tea, climb into his sleeping bag and REST!
🌤️ DON McINTYRE: "THERE WAS NO WAY YOU COULD HAVE AVOIDED THAT."
Don reassures Daniel that the storm system had shifted and there was no realistic way to escape its path.
The latest forecast suggests conditions will gradually ease, with a developing South Atlantic high-pressure system bringing several days of lighter winds.
But that brings another frustration!
After deliberately heading south in search of stronger winds, Daniel now faces the possibility of being becalmed again.
💔 "IT’S NOT FUN AT ALL!"
When Don asks whether he’s still enjoying the Golden Globe Race, Daniel gives a very honest answer:
"No. No. I must be honest. It’s not fun at all."
But he knows these difficult days are part of the journey and hopes the conditions will become more balanced.
Despite the storm, exhaustion and frustration, Daniel remains determined to continue.
❤️ His call ends with Don reminding him that thousands of supporters are following his journey and wishing him well.
