🔥 What does a fire drill have to do with ocean conservation?
Everything.
At sea, we rely entirely on ourselves. The ocean can be unpredictable, and fire is one of the most dangerous emergencies that can happen on a ship. It spreads fast, and smoke can fill every space through the ventilation system in seconds.
That’s why our crews train regularly, sometimes with professional firefighters. Every drill helps us react faster, stay calmer, and protect one another when it really counts. Thank you to the Brown Watch Station based at Grey Lynn Fire Station for doing the drill with us this time!
We may not all start as firefighters, but we learn, because when you sail into the most remote parts of the ocean, preparation saves lives. 🌊💪
Being an ocean defender on board also means gaining knowledge in firefighting, enclosed space safety, sailing, chart reading, first aid, and so much more you never imagined you would need to know. It all starts with motivation, and the courage to go where few ever do.
