GGR2026: Mould Everywhere & Headsail Furler Trouble! Pär Nyman Stays Positive at Sea – call 6th Nov

⛵ Mould on the walls, a troublesome headsail furler and endless jobs aboard — but Pär Nyman is taking it all in his stride!

In his latest weekly safety call with the Golden Globe Race team, Swedish sailor Pär Nyman, aboard Lazy Otter, sounds relaxed and in good spirits as he continues his solo voyage around the world in the 2026 Golden Globe Race.

🌊 Finally, some good sailing conditions!

After challenging weeks at sea, Pär is enjoying steady winds, calmer seas, warmer sunshine and, most importantly, some decent sleep!

But life aboard a solo racing yacht is never straightforward.

🔧 Mould everywhere! Pär reports mould spreading across the interior walls, meaning a major cleaning operation is on his daily job list.

⚠️ Headsail furler trouble! A bolt connecting sections of the aluminium furling foil keeps coming loose, even after Pär climbed up to tighten it several weeks ago. He’s now considering how to manage the problem, including relying on his twin headsails if necessary.

🌡️ Getting colder! Despite temperatures reaching around 25°C recently, Pär is noticing the gradual change as he makes progress south.

And his approach to racing?

💬 "I feel stressed about racing, so I try to pretend I’m not racing at all!" 😂

A wonderful reminder that staying calm, practical and positive is just as important as sailing fast in a race around the world.

Listen to Pär’s latest conversation from the Southern Hemisphere — full of humour, honesty and the everyday realities of life alone at sea.

❤️ Leave Pär a message of encouragement in the comments!
