Racing finally fires up in Yokosuka 🇯🇵⚡️
After two days on hold, the fleet finally hit the water as racing kicked off in light, shifty 6–15 knot winds. It wasn’t easy, but both world title leaders delivered exactly what they needed.
Justine Lemeteyer made a powerful statement by storming through the women’s Winners’ Final to take the first bullet of the week. A slower start didn’t faze her as she surged into the lead by the second buoy and never looked back. Lina Eržen was once again her closest challenger, keeping the title fight razor-thin with just 1.3 points separating them in the event rankings. Blanca Alabau opened strongly with third, while rookie Maya Gysler impressed with a fearless run into fourth. Marion Mortefon returned to action with a solid fifth, and Mio Anayama leads the Japanese fleet in eighth.
In the men’s fleet, Johan Søe continued his incredible form, taking a commanding win in the opening elimination as he chases a fourth straight event victory. Matteo Iachino followed in second, a result that strengthens his world title bid as he keeps Pierre Mortefon safely behind. Mortefon’s last-minute overtake on Maciek Rutkowski for third may prove crucial. Fabian Wolf and John Soukos both picked up where they left off in Sylt, finishing fifth and sixth. William Huppert, Alexis Mathis and Elia Colombo completed the early top ten, with Colombo winning the b-final in style.
Forecasts suggest lighter winds on Sunday, but Monday still looks promising for more action. The title race is officially on — and wide open. Stay tuned.
