Isa Rosli: 8 Days of Slamming & Returning Barnacles | GGR 2026 Week 6

Eight days of slamming, repairs at sea and barnacles making an unwelcome comeback—Isa Rosli has plenty to report in his Week 6 phone call from the McIntyre Golden Globe Race 2026!

With sunshine and gentler seas finally providing a welcome break, the Canadian skipper talks to Don McIntyre from aboard his OE32, Olleanna, about balancing good progress with looking after the boat for the long voyage ahead.

Isa explains why he has deliberately eased his speed to reduce the pounding, describes replacing a worn Windpilot pulley and dealing with damaged fittings, and shares his determination to make his well-used sails last the distance.

Then there are the unwanted passengers! A dive during the doldrums saw him remove an estimated 100–200 barnacles, mostly around the stern and rudder. Now he has spotted fresh growth and is waiting for suitable conditions to clean again. Apparently, the barnacles haven’t read the rules about sailing solo!

Nearly six weeks into the race, Isa also reflects on the experience he is gaining, having completed his first overnight solo sail only months before the start. Staying observant, preparing ahead and taking each challenge as it comes are all part of his daily routine.

There are quieter moments too: reading letters from schoolchildren, enjoying books and favourite music, and catching up with Matt and Mara on the radio. He shares an update on his health, talks about keeping his bunk dry despite a few leaks, and sends love to his family and thanks to everyone following his adventure.

With the Southern Ocean ahead, Isa’s focus is clear: look after himself, look after Olleanna, and keep sailing towards the next waypoint.
