Sarah-Quita Offringa becomes 29 times PWA World Champion, but she didn’t do it the easy way… it was a nerve racking 48 hours for Sarah-Quita, after Maaike Huvermann won the single elimination and put Sarah in a position she hasn’t experienced since 2007. She was the challenger. First up, she faced Lisa Kloster – and she came out firing and set the tone for what was to come. You might have expected her to be nervous, it’s a long time since she was in this position but she didn’t show it. With a backloop, burner and Spock culo, she passed to the final and showed Maaike that she wasn’t going down without a fight.
In the double elimination final, if Maaike won, it was game over for Sarah. Maaike would take the world title. The pressure was on. One wrong step for the Aruban and her 19 year reign would be over. But she wasn’t phased.
In nuking conditions she put down a solid heat and forced Maaike into a Super Final.
In the end, Sarah-Quita showed exactly why we call her the Queen of Windsurfing. In gnarly conditions, she showed her strength and composure. The pressure never got to her. She opened the super final with a huge forward and then backed it up with a burner and skopu in the first few minutes. Maaike answered back, putting down a Skopu of her own and stomped a Spock Culo, but ultimately it wasn’t enough, and she was left heart broken.
Sarah-Quita continues to rewrite the history books. This victory marks her 17th freestyle world title and 29th PWA World Title. She is the undisputed Queen of Windsurfing and once again leaves Fuerteventura victorious. 🐐
