What does it actually take to arrest an illegal fishing vessel at sea? 🚨🌊
Spotting suspicious activity is only the beginning.
From detecting a vessel and approaching it at sea, to getting national authorities onboard, inspecting documents and fishing gear, collecting evidence and bringing a vessel back to port, an arrest can involve hours of coordination between our crew and our government partners.
And sometimes, the vessels don’t make it easy.
Our cameras are there to document what happens far from shore, where illegal fishing would otherwise remain largely out of sight.
