If golf is called a sport, then scuba diving is the Olympics 🫶
J/k I love golf (jk again, I only love mini golf or Top Golf)
Scuba Diving meets every requirement to be a sport (according to internet definitions🤷♂️) BUT with one exception: the big holdup seems to be COMPETITION.
Of course, it can easily be competitive and there are several isolated or local/regional competitions (usually law enforcement SAR or fire rescue teams). But I’d be happy to host a legit, nationally organized Scuba Diving Olympics if we could get some big support behind it. Who could support this? Easy: Agencies and Gear Manufacturers. What could the games be? The possibilities are endless, but it could range from simple races, air consumption, buoyancy control (such as obstacle courses) blindfolded cave simulations or courses, the list goes on.
Yes, CMAS does some form of this in Europe but it hasn’t made it to the scale I’d like to see.
