325 meters. That is how high the Amazon Tall Tower Observatory rises above the rainforest, and it looks out over hundreds of square miles of jungle in every direction. Brazil and Germany spent 10 million dollars to build and staff it. Packed with measuring instruments, it tracks what the trees inhale and how the forest shapes the atmosphere. Meteorologist Stefan Wolv lives and works up here for a year. At the top, clouds form just below the platform and sometimes drift straight through the tower.
