A forest looks calm from the outside. Walk in, and you enter one of the most contested places on Earth – a world where the tallest, oldest and most sophisticated life forms on the planet are locked in a fight that never stops. We take trees for granted. We shouldn’t. Every forest is a hidden system of alliances, traps, thieves, warnings and defences, and almost none of it is visible to us.
This documentary follows the forest across the planet: the rainforest canopy of Madagascar, the frozen boreal forests of the north, European woodland, the tropical forests of Australia, the acacia country of the African savannah, the mangrove forests where trees grow in seawater, and the cloud forest home of one of the world’s most elusive tree dwellers.
