A blue shark has around 70 teeth. Most people would want to be as far away as possible. Free diver Anna gets in the water with them – no cage, no scuba tank, just one breath. This free diving documentary follows one of the world’s most successful free divers from the Azores to Iceland, into places few divers ever reach.
Off Pico Island, where the Atlantic drops away into the deep, blue sharks circle the boat. Anna and underwater cinematographer Nuno Sá go in without hesitation – and the first shark makes contact within seconds. Eighty kilometres out at sea, on a seamount surrounded by 3,000 metres of open ocean, mobula rays gather for reasons no one can explain, while the current threatens to carry anyone who drifts too far into nowhere. On Santa Maria, Anna joins the island’s fishermen for a day that turns out very differently than expected.
Then Iceland. Two degrees Celsius, sideways hail, and a wetsuit that arrived one day too late – and doesn’t fit. Anna free dives the Silfra fissure between the European and North American plates, descends to the only white smoker on Earth reachable by divers, chases a humpback whale in a northern fjord, and follows secret GPS coordinates through fresh snow to a hidden glacier lake that appears on no map. What she finds there, and how long it takes her to come back, is something the film crew waiting on the other side of the river will never forget.
