The Hunt for a Pirate Ship Leads to a Burned Wreck

The search for Henry Avery and the lost pirate world of Nassau takes a major turn.

In Episode 4 of "The Mystery of the Pirate King’s Treasure", the Wreckwatch expedition team returns to Nassau Harbour, where pirates, wreckers, smugglers, and treasure hunters once moved through one of the most important harbours in the Caribbean.

After days of weather delays and difficult conditions, Dr. Sean Kingsley, Chris Atkins, Dr. Michael Pateman, Nick Maillis, Tatyana Lockhart, and the team continue the underwater search and discover something that could change the expedition.

Beneath the silt and sand, the team finds evidence of an old wreck site, including burned wood, hull remains, ballast, and signs that the ship may have been deliberately destroyed. In a harbour once connected to Henry Avery, Blackbeard, and the rise of the Golden Age of Piracy, a burned shipwreck raises a fascinating question, could this be one of Nassau’s lost pirate ships?

The team also meets Matthew Robinson, a young Nassau explorer who has discovered historic artifacts on land and shares his insight into the island’s hidden past, local legends, and the possibility that more clues may still be waiting to be found.

The search then leads to another mysterious underwater site where the team discovers ancient clay tobacco pipes, artifacts that may help reveal more about the people, trade, and shipwrecks that once passed through these waters.

From burned timbers to tobacco pipes, this episode brings the hunt closer than ever to the lost pirate history of The Bahamas.
