Come dive the PLM-27 with us.
No narration. No talking. Just the sound of our bubbles, the North Atlantic, and gentle atmospheric music as we explore one of the remarkable WWII wrecks resting beneath the waters off Bell Island, Newfoundland.
The PLM-27 was a Free French ore carrier operating under the forces of General Charles de Gaulle during the Second World War. In the early hours of November 2, 1942, she was struck amidships by a torpedo fired from the German submarine U-518 and sank in less than a minute. Twelve crew members lost their lives, while survivors made it ashore at Lance Cove, Bell Island.
Today, the PLM-27 rests on the floor of Conception Bay and has become one of Bell Island’s most accessible and visually impressive wreck dives. It is the shallowest of the four Bell Island WWII wrecks, receives excellent light, and is known for its intact propeller and dramatic structure.
This video is part of our Dive With Us series — immersive wreck dives designed to make you feel as though you are right there underwater beside us.
We’re diving with our friends at Ocean Quest Adventures, who guide divers to the Bell Island wrecks and other incredible underwater sites in Newfoundland and Labrador.
