On day 20 of our Greek Octopus Campaign, while retrieving illegal octopus traps, our crew spotted a sea turtle struggling at the surface, entangled in fishing line and unable to dive.
A diver entered the water and brought her safely aboard. After carefully removing the line and checking her for injuries, the crew released her back into the sea. 🐢🌊
Fishing gear does not only threaten the species it is intended to catch. Turtles, seabirds, fish and countless other marine animals can become trapped, injured or killed by it.
This turtle was lucky our crew found her in time. Many others are never seen.
With World Octopus Day approaching on 8 October, help us keep our crews at sea, removing deadly fishing gear and protecting marine life throughout the Mediterranean.
