Making sense of the small things in marine science to have an impact

AIMS researcher Keegan Vickers is studying the smaller things in the ocean – microplastics. Microplastics are plastic items that are smaller than 5mm. They’re attracting global concern due to the threat they pose to marine life and ecosystems.

One thing Keegan loves about marine science is having an impact and making sense of these tiny infiltrators is sure to have an impact, as the Australian Institute of Marine Science microplastics team are determining the presence, effects and sources of microplastics.
