They’re only a few days old, but it’s already time for our coral larvae to settle down!
Our coral spawning team at The National Sea Simulator (SeaSim) are moving them from their first home, where they have been monitored by the Coral Spawn and Larvae Imaging Camera System (CSLICS) 🪸📸
The next stage of their life is in our settlement tanks. Here the larvae will settle on specially prepared tiles, where they will turn from larvae into young coral polyps.
Their development underpins much of the research that will help our reefs thrive into the future.

These processes have been developed with our collaborators as part of the Reef Restoration and Adaptation Program (RRAP), which is funded by the partnership between the Australian Government’s Reef Trust (Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water) and the Great Barrier Reef Foundation.
